Facilities South Benchmarking Group
Beginning life as the ‘Hotel Services Benchmarking Club’ in 1998, our meetings have been hosted by over 50 hospitals. The NPAG has worked with Facilities Services Managers, creating an environment for them to continually improve their services. Consequently, members of our groups continue to demonstrate enthusiasm for seeking out improvements and developments in their services, providing a solid basis upon which to provide the best available care for patients.
Because of this success we have two groups running – covering the north and south of the country. The geographical dividing line is broadly one drawn from Birmingham to the Wash with the northern group meeting in Sheffield and the southern one in and around London.

Being a member of the Facilities South BVG has a really positive effect on my decision making. Managing a hospital FM department can be really challenging and stressful at times so meeting up with a group of people who are in very similar situations and have the same issues to solve can only be a good thing – especially in these difficult times. It came as a shock to me last year to be voted in as vice-chair, but very rewarding too. When we meet the wealth of FM expertise in the room is vast and there is always someone able to support whatever issue or query a colleague may have. With the “on point” speakers at each meeting we are always one step ahead of change. I would highly recommend joining to all who manage an FM portfolio in the NHS.
I have been part of the Facilities group in the South with NPAG for several years and in all honesty, I am glad that I have. I have found the group to be supportive and progressive about new ideas and change. NPAG gives me access to up-to-date information and during COVID we have continued to share experiences, learning and best practice.
The NPAG Facilities group is a vital resource for me as Head of Facilities, it keeps me up to date with all the relevant topics. It’s also great that we then have contacts at other Trusts to ask for advice or support.
