About Us
The NPAG is an NHS provider of consultancy services hosted by the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
The NPAG was originally established and funded by the Department of Health in 1983 to provide advice and guidance to Whitley Councils and Regional Health Authorities regarding pay productivity issues for ambulance, ancillary and estates staff.
The NPAG commenced national benchmarking of NHS services in 1993 in response to demands from operational managers for data to compare and improve their service functions.
The Department of Health ceased funding the NPAG in April 1999, when the NPAG was transferred to Essex Ambulance Service NHS Trust. Now operating on a self-financed, not-for-profit basis, the NPAG has continued to develop a national programme of benchmarking and best value services in response to the demand from NHS managers for comparative data and processes, networking opportunities and sharing of good practice.
On 1st July 2006 the NPAG became a trading division of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, following the Department of Health’s reconfiguration of ambulance services in England.
Thames (Thames Management Services) is an NHS provider of management consultancy services and an NPAG partner organisation hosted by the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
Thames was founded in 1959 as an in-house NHS provider of management consultancy services. The ‘Thames Management Services’ name was introduced in 1991 when the organisation became the first self-financed, trading executive of the former North East Thames Regional Health Authority (NETRHA).
In 1994, following reorganisation of the NHS by the Department of Health, Thames transferred from NETRHA to Essex Ambulance Service NHS Trust and became a self-financed, trading division of the Trust’s Finance & Performance Management Directorate.
Thames has operated as a trading partner with NPAG since 1999, when NPAG transferred from the Department of Health to Essex Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
Thames became a self-financed, not-for-profit, trading division of East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust from 1st July 2006 following the reconfiguration of ambulance services in England by the Department of Health.
